UK Reggae Star Smiley Culture Dies During Drug Raid

Reggae hitmaker Smiley Culture, aka David Emmanuel, has died of self-inflicted stab wounds during a police raid.
Associated Press has reported that the reggae star behind ‘80s hits ‘Police Officer’ and ‘Cockney Translation’ had his Surrey home raided by police as part of a series of raids during a drug investigation.

The Sun reports that the 48-year-old DJ asked if he could make a cup of tea before being taken into custody. He subsequently stabbed himself in the heart in the kitchen, where police found him dying of the wound.
The incident has been voluntarily reported to Scotland Yard and the Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an investigation.

Smiley Culture enjoyed success in the ‘80s with two albums Tongue In Cheek and The Original Smiley Culture, appeared on Top Of The Pops, and was regarded as an influential figure in the UK’s rap and grime scenes.
He was charged in September last year in London with conspiracy to supply cocaine.

NOTE: ME PERSONALLY I DON'T BELIEVE A WORD OF WHAT THEY ARE SAYING, NOT BECAUSE IM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO BLAME BUT WHEN HAVE YOU HEARD OF POLICE LETTING SOMEONE MAKE A CUP OF TEA BEFORE THEY TAKE THEM TO THE STATION!! .... THEY MUST THINK PEOPLE ARE STUPID!!

Snoop Dogg has paid tribute to Nate Dogg, who died last night (March 15).

Nate Dogg, real name Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, was 41. The cause of his death is as yet unconfirmed.

Writing on his Twitter page, Twitter.com/snoopdogg, Snoop hailed his rapper friend, who he met as a teenager.

"We lost a true legend in hip-hop and R&B," he wrote. "One of my best friends and a brother to me since 1986 when I was a sophomore at Poly High [Long Beach Polytechnic High School] where we met."

He added: "I love you buddy. You will always be with me forever and a day. You put the 'G' in 'G funk', you put the '1' in '213' and you put your stamp on everybody you ever did it with.

"I miss you because I am so sad but so happy I got to grow up with you, and I will see you again in heaven, because you know the slogan about 'all doggs go to heaven'."

Nate Dogg made his debut on Dr. Dre's 1992 debut solo album 'The Chronic'. As well as Snoop he also collaborated with Eminem, Ludacris, Tupac Shakur and Warren G. Mos Def, Pharoh Monch

He released three studio albums of his own, most recently his 2004 self-titled effort.
